Cervical cancer has been increasingly seen in women nowadays

Cervical cancer is cancer that starts in the cervix, the lower part of the uterus (womb) that opens at the top of the vagina. Worldwide, cervical cancer is the third most common type of cancer in women. Most cervical cancer is caused by a virus called human papilloma virus, or HPV. You can get HPV by having sexual contact with someone who has it.

Cervical cancer usually develops very slowly. This precancerous condition can be detected by a Pap smear and is 100% treatable. Abnormal cervical cell changes rarely cause symptoms. But you may have symptoms if those cell changes grow into cervical cancer. Symptoms of cervical cancer may include Bleeding from the vagina that is not normal, or a change in your menstrual cycle , Pain & vaginal Bleeding after sexual intercourse, vaginal discharge that is tinged with blood.

As part of your regular pelvic exam, you should have a Pap smear done; Regular Pap tests almost always show these cell changes before they turn into cancer. If abnormal changes are found, the cervix is usually examined under magnification. This is called colposcopy. Pieces of tissue are surgically removed (biopsied) during this procedure and sent to a laboratory for examination.
